Ok so it wasn’t as nice nor romantic as the entry title sounds.

Â
Went for the Nokia Starlight Cinema on Wed for the movie King Kong. Think I’m supposed to blog about the movie but I shall rant about the cinema instead.
Asia’s largest outdoor cinema isn’t very well placed this year. And I was glad that we didn’t pay for the movie, though we very almost wanted to.

 Â
The Padang is a far cry from Fort Canning, where it was previously held. The ambient lights were all right but it’s the flood lights that were lighting the football field behind the screen that were bad! The VIP spot had the screen blocking the lights but sitting in the general area, the glare from the lights were simply irritating. Who puts a screen in front of some giant floodlights?
Although traffic around the Padang was minimal as we now have the Esplanade bridge, the occasional hissing sound of the public buses passing by was audible. Not to mention the occasional car turning out and sweeping its headlights across the field. Who puts a cinema in a field with traffic on both sides?
Sound was bad too. You would have had better sound at home playing the DVD but of course this being an outdoor cinema, is forgivable. But what’s not is the echo you get from the buildings behind. Now who puts an outdoor cinema right smack in the middle of the business district?
And oh this isn’t really a problem with the venue but King Kong is a film which is a tad too long to be watching while sitting on the grass. Well though it’s nice and soft but your back kinda aches after sitting in that position too long.
And the field is flat. Which means you can’t lie down and see the screen and you have uncourteous people standing up and blocking the screen in the middle of the film.
$15 is still a reasonable price to watch a movie under the stars, but definately not at The Padang.
I'd like to believe I know what I am doing with my life… But really, I have no clue at all…

Well, I’m sure the least you could have done was appreciate the company you had… the poor pitiful person who had to listen to all your complaints, while trying to watch the 3 hr movie and get comfortable sitting on the hard ground…
