Premature ‘Auntie’

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

I love my 娱家播道 (SCV channel 55). My brother-in-law and preggie sis calls it the ‘auntie channel’.

Whatever.

I’m living in a houseful of ‘aunties’. CWW included. ;)

**While I was away in Vietnam, I missed the ending of the 水浒无间道… Anyone can tell me what happened in the end?**

I’m currently catching 我的野蛮奶奶. It’s absolutely hilarious!!!

Sure, the shows can be quite silly but I really believe in the whole 戏如人生 thing. That our lives are like the shows on TV. I remember hearing a lot of touching dialogue in my HK shows, the doctor one, the P.I. one, the funny detective one… About love and that sort of thing… Sometimes, it even makes me tear…

I even found a character that sounds like me!

The big brother in 甜孙爷爷 is unemployed, isn’t too bother by that fact, and has the entire family breathing down his neck about it, especially his demanding girl who eventually breaks up with him. (Ok… that bit isn’t like me cos I dun have a bf… But his girlfren gets him recruit newspapers and makes him apply to everything… Sounds like my biggie sis.) He might be a little smarter than me, cos he managed to get his younger brother to write his application letters for him…

Wonder if my biggie sis would do it for me. Actually, I think she would, after a lot of nagging.

The thing is, he enjoys his chillout life, and doesn’t think he is as aimless as his ex makes him out to be…

Hai… It’s tough being us…

Plucked from the sky

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Hey guys… I’m finally back from my Vietnam holiday and back to spare you guys from all the boring automated blog entries that you’ve been having for the past 4 days…

Vietnam was pretty fun… Ho Chi Minh City to be exact… Can’t wait to blog about all the stuff that happened… Took tons of pictures and some stupid videos…

But i’m way tired…

So I’m gonna do what I do best - Procrastinate

And then do what I do second best - Sleep

:)

Here’s a little thought I plucked out of the sky:

You know how Singaporeans love abbreviations? Well, I saw a signboard on the silver cab on the way home saying…

Singapore Expo

Now, if we abbreviated that, it would become

S.Expo

Maybe the organisers of Sexpo weren’t that creative after all, hor, Soph?

My Anata

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Ivan sang it at Kbox… and I was completely floored!!

Became one of my all time favourite Kbox-must-sing songs… =)

The lyrics are amusing, and so is the MTV… If you can’t understand Mandarin or Jap or both, I’ve included the translation…

Enjoy!

My Anata - David Tao

三更半夜 SABISHII的我
只聽見OJISAN騎著單車賣著饅頭
YOJI HAN DESU

BAKA

Translation: (From Tingdong)

Past 3:30, lonely me
I only hear an old man riding his bike, selling steamed bread
It’s 4:30, where are you?
Is it possible you’re in a club again, singing Nakashi?**

Oh, I don’t know if you still love me
Where did I go wrong? Please tell me
I won’t hit back, I won’t yell back
Just say the words, “I love you” don’t say “goodbye”
Stupid…

Lonely me all alone
Bitterly waiting for two years and three months with no news of news of my anata
Oh, I’m almost going crazy, I hear the doorbell ring
“I’m sorry,” the person hurriedly says, the ones they’re looking for are next door

Oh, I suspect that you don’t love me anymore
You want to leave me, I’m begging you not to go
I’ve lost weight for you, I’ve become drunk for you
Please don’t say you don’t love me anymore, beloved anata

I want you to know I’ll love you forever
If I lose you, I can’t go on living
We two match the best, I won’t blame you
Because one day you’ll see me crawling out of your TV set…

花样年华 - In the mood for love

Monday, November 27th, 2006

One of those movies that you can really watch with your mother… At least, I can… My mum watched it before I was born and loved it…

I first watched it in (of all places) Bangladesh… Jess loved it, so i got the VCD and we watched it on her white ibook in Peter’s kitchen on a stormy evening when the power was off… And i’m not kidding…

It’s a beautiful movie… a moving story… And you can watch it on my Youtube Playlist

Tony Leung is so cool.

Keen on Keane

Keane has a very unique sound… Fell in love with their song… “Nothing in my way”…Couldn’t stop listening to it…

I couldn’t find it on youtube… But you can hear it here… If you like, you can even listen to all the stuff I love at RadioTBP… So until I learn to host this song on my blog… I’m just gonna leave the chords for my TBP School of Music students…

The love of the Cross

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

Saturday Nights have been my church-going nights for years… I don’t even remember what I used to do on Saturday nights before I started attending church… Mustn’t have been very memorable…

This video made me tear… And since I can’t be home to attend service and possibly blog about another redefinition of faith… I thought I’d leave this for my avid blog readers…

我的爱

Friday, November 24th, 2006

I’m shocked that I never watched this MTV sooner… It’s even more beautiful than the song…

我的爱 - 孙燕姿

It’s also rather apt that she’s on a plane and everything… Cos at the time when this post gets posted automatically (yes, wordpress does that…), I should be on the plane and off for my holiday in Vietnam!!!

Be back on Tuesday!!!

And in the meantime, my little guest bloggers can go wild again…

Little Shop of Horrors

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

Went and caught Little Shop of Horrors by Dream Academy and the Dim Sum Dollies.

DimSumDollies Small

I’ve never seen anything with the Dim Sum Dollies before this… Used to be very disturbed by their get-up… (Despite the fact that I like Selena Tan and I’ve watched stuff by Emma Yong…)

The origins of this musical are rather confusing.

It was originally a 1960 black comedy film “The Little Shop of Horrors” directed by Roger Corman, who reportedly wrote the script in one night, together with Charles B. Griffith when they were both drunk. (Source: Wikipedia)

It was later adapted as a musical in 1982, renamed “Little Shop of horrors”, by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. The musical then inspired another adaptation to film called “Little shop of horrors” in 1986 and an animated TV series called “Little Shop”. (Source: Wikipedia)

This Singapore version is taken from the 1982 adaptation… Directed by Glen Goei, and spruced up by the Dim Sum Dollies, it features a lot of local references and jokes… For instance, Mushnik’s Flower Shop is located at Lorong Skid Row, the Dollies appeared as Ah Lians, SG girls, & Carpark attendants… Not to mention a powderful cast…

Cast:
Seymour - Hossan Leong
Audrey - Denise Tan
Mr Mushnik - Sean Worrall
Orin - Lim Yu-Beng
Bernstein, Snip, Luce and everyone else - Robin Goh
Ronnette - Emma Yong
Crystal - Selena Tan
Chiffon - Pam Oei
Audrey II (voice) - Dave ‘Electrico’ Tan
Audrey II (manipulation) - Frankie Yeo of Mascots & Puppets.

I found the story amusing… albeit a little gross…

Seymour, a frail and clumsy little guy working at Mr Mushnik’s flower shop, finds a queer plant and names it Audrey 2, after the girl he likes. He later finds out that it survives on human blood, and feeds it his own blood. The plant draws attention to the shop, causing Mr Mushnik’s business to thrive. Seymour is thrown into the limelight, Audrey notices him, and Mr Mushnik adopts him. However, Audrey 2’s insatiable appetite for fresh blood gets Seymour into a lot of trouble.

Ok… I was really disgusted when Seymour fed Audrey’s violent boyfriend, Orin, to Audrey 2 in many parts… But actually, Audrey 2 is quite cute… Especially when you watch it talk and dance and grow from scene to scene…

TBP Rating: Not for the faint of heart… Not for those expecting a typical Dim Sum Dollies show…

Whitebait & Kale

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

It was Mummy & Daddy’s wedding anniversary… So we went out to celebrate…

Family Portrait small

The whole gang

Whitebait & Kale is at Camden Medical Centre on Orchard Boulevard… It’s rather pretty … But today, it was terribly noisy because of a wine dinner they were having…

Mum & Dad & Gift

Mum & Dad exchanging gifts

We were sitting outside to avoid the noise, but the mozzies came along and we decided to move indoors… The manager was nice enough to put us up in a little alcove away from the crowds and surrounded by wine! (Just the way daddy likes it…)

Whitebait002

Mum & Dad’s private toast

The food was nice… My pasta looked exactly like beehoon, but tasted nicer… I loved Preggie Sister’s lamb & Mummy’s Snapper pie… But nothing could beat dessert…

Creme Brulee

Earl Grey infused Creme Brulee

Just heavenly…

The most fun part of the evening was probably the phototaking… Daddy gave up trying to figure out his Powershot and I got free rein once again… The rest of the pictures are in my photogallery
