Looking for the compromise

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

There’s something wrong in what they are telling me.

I can’t tell what.

It’s true I never agreed with their point of view. But that’s not the point here.

I just can’t believe that everything I hold on to is completely wrong either.

But they won’t take my point of view.

Tensions.

I can’t simply leave the status quo as it is. I can’t live with it.

I believe things must change. They have to.

Go free!

I’ve always been very pleased with my Windows XP lappie.

I started with a Windows 98. And that was always a hassle to use, especially when you have tons of plug and play equipment and none of the drivers.

Then Windows came up with Vista. Which is just a bad idea. The new comp I got at the place which I spend a lot of my waking hours at (which is neither my home, my school, nor my starbucks) has vista installed on it and I can’t make it do simple tasks like burn a dvd. Cos none of the free & legal & readily available burning software online works on it. Heck, not even the expensive prorietary burning software, that came with the CPU, works on it.

So if this lappie of mine ever decides to break down… I’m going free. I’m going open source.

No Windows. Just Ubuntu.

Ubuntu, is one of the most popular and stable versions of Linux available on the market right now. Perfect for the Personal Home User. It’s a full operating system that works just as well as Windows. Maybe better.

You got the options to change how everything looks (Beryl does some cool 3D graphics stuff). It runs every type of program, open source. And if you need to operate some of your Windows proprietary software, just install WINE. It will allow your Windows software to run on Ubuntu.

And if you wanna do graphics rich stuff like video editing, music editing, and photo editing, which I do a lot (For Personal Hobbies), there’s Ubuntu Studio. I’m tempted to switch to it, cos it looks so pretty and it’s lightweight to run. Will look into it when this lappie starts to give up on me.

I speak only for myself, a personal home user, of course. I’m not sure how Ubuntu/Ubuntu Studio would be appropriate and suitable for professional settings. I’m sure there are options for offices, but I will not speak on those. I’m no advocate for them, simply because I don’t run my own company.

So, if any company chooses to take up Ubuntu or any other Linux systems for their offices, after this post is published… Please, it’s nothing to do with me.

Perfect recipe

Some days, you get all the ingredients to create the PERFECT BAD DAY.

What you’ll need:

1 Tbsps - Fresh coughs, flu and migraine.

2 Tbsps early start at work.

5 Tbsps enclosed work space.

5 Tbsp cold office.

1 tsp no appetite for food.

5 tsps self medicating pills that don’t work.

3 Tbsps hot water parade to soothe cough and sore throat that also don’t work.

3 Tbsps resulting multiple trips to the loo.

Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl. And add a bit of the final secret ingredient. A tiny drop of a phonecall that invades your work into your personal privacy.

Now, you have the perfect bad day. Bottoms up!

You will always love doing the things you love… Until people who have nothing to do with it start telling you how to do them.

Nanny Diaries

Changed my first diaper on Sunday.

Not mine, of course. I mean Stella’s.

The brother-in-law was thoroughly amused. He’s never seen anyone more excited about changing a smelly and poopy diaper. On the other side, mummie sis was giving me step-by-step instructions, while Stella stared at me in curious delight.

Ooo look! Ah mai’s trying to clean up my poopy!

Stella was very cooperative for most of the time. She didn’t cry or frown. She would just stare at me with her big bright eyes. Grinning from time to time.

But I took really long and she started to get bored. So she did what she does best - She lifted up her little legs and turned on her tummy! Without her diaper! I had to coax her back upright. But she tried to do it again. By then, I knew she was getting very impatient and quickly got her diaper fixed on.

She was a happy baby after that. And she showed off her newest little trick: The Stella Push Up!

It’s a great little series of pictures. Will upload more when I find time to…

Sanctified in Christ

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Exactly a month ago, my dearest old friend and sister-in-christ, chose to take a step of faith and obedience to follow Jesus in water baptism.

I had the privilege of witnessing the entire event. Even took a video of her testimony (which I will not show because she would kill me if i did…) Her written testimony was also unexpectedly published in the church magazine, together with her photo of her and Rosco (her boisterous pet dog)… Man, she felt so embarrassed…

I, on the other hand, thought her testimony was very heartfelt and honest and inspiring… But I can’t show that either… (she specifically warned me on this one.) In fact, her story of finding Christ still never fails to amaze me, no matter how many times I hear it or read about it.

  • It was God who reached out to her.
  • It was God who drew her to Him.
  • It was God who taught her to love Him and follow Him

Ling's Baptism

As I sat in the audience watching her, I felt nothing but joy! God did a great thing in her life, giving her a lot of strength and hope, and we’ve grown so much closer than we’d ever been before.

Congratulations Ling! I’m so glad that God gave me the privilege of being a part of your life! Love you so much!

I’m still waiting for it to be available for yahoo or something for my XP laptop.

Spidey!

Friday, May 11th, 2007

By an amazing twist of circumstances, I got off work 2 hrs earlier than expected, and went to catch Spiderman 3 on Monday!

My colleagues, and my good ol’ buddy Miss Ha told me that it was very draggy and long and boring. I was rather worried that it would be a disappointment. Like many other sequels…

For what it’s worth, all that bad review about the movie wasn’t enough to sway tons of people from watching it. We only managed to get third row seats. Everything else behind us was fully booked. Ah well… I guess it’s one of those shows that you need to see for yourself to convince yourself that it was bad show…

Guess what?

I loved it!

I couldn’t really see where it was draggy. I was riveted to the screen for the entire 2 hours! The plot development, the way they established the new characters, and tied it together, it was a nicely planned story! And the effects were cool, as always.

I just have 2 gripes about it.

  1. Why does Spidey always have his mask off? It defeats the whole purpose of being a masked superhero doesn’t it?
  2. The way they let Harry discover the truth about his father was kinda sloppy. Someone just wanted to get that over and done with quickly. Quite a letdown, after all that build up and suspense from the 2 prequels.

But other than that, it was a good show…

TBP Rating: Worth a watch… Even if just to convince yourself that it’s bad or otherwise.
