J…?

Friday, January 26th, 2007

I knew there was a reason why I didn’t have an inspiration for a blog the entire day… Cos I was MEANT to blog about cell…

It was a nice small group today with just 8 of us. Melmel came by for a visit… And what a rubbishy conversations we had again… Everyone was high… Won’t go into any detail, these things don’t translate well into blogs… Must be there to experience it first-hand…

But, there are a couple of things that must be said… (Otherwise, the ones who missed it will be scratching their heads in frustration.)

So as promised at Rong’s dining table, YQ will feature on this post. Because she especially complimented a particular person, whose name starts with J… So dubious eh?

Well, Wendy (new girl, Ray!) explained that she first visited a church for a guy, but stayed on for Jesus…

And YQ quipped,

“Christ is Charming!”

What?? Who did you think it was??

One more thing… We’re probably gonna start a cell blog… Where everyone gets to post whenever they want… It’ll have testimonies, prayer requests, jokes, pictures, and plenty of our trash conversations transferred to the blog for virtual time suaning! We’d also be able to link all our blogs to the cell blog… Moderator: Clems… (Who else??)

Even Raymond can contribute from the USA! Cool??

Changing God’s mind

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Pastor Wilson’s message during YAS was a very enlightening one…

It was the first of the new sermon series called “Finding God’s Will”

[insert punny joke here]

Anyway, one thing stuck with me during his message… That is, the difference between God’s will and God’s decisions

We all know that God’s will is unchanging. But then, why is it that situations are turned around when we pray? Have we changed God’s will??

Nope.

P Wilson raised the example of Moses and God to substantiate that. God had already made a covenant with Abraham, a long time ago, to make him into a great nation. But during the time when Moses was receiving the 10 commandments from God, the Israelites got terribly impatient and made a golden calf to worship and give thanks for coming out of Egypt safely…

What the Israelites did was terribly ungrateful. They basically turned their backs on God, who saved them, and worshipped an idol that they made. God couldn’t tolerate such behaviour and told Moses that He intended to destroy the entire nation and start a new one with Moses.

What was God’s will here? To make Moses a great nation? Or to make Abraham’s decendents more numerous than the stars in the sky?

It was the latter.

God’s decision to destroy the Israelites and rebuild it with Moses was His reaction to the sin of the Israelites. It was a consequence of the Israelites’ sin.

Moses recognised this and pleaded with God to pardon the Israelies from the consequence of their sin, and for God to continue to enforce His Will (i.e. to make them His chosen nation). Of course, there are other things to consider, like that God might have been testing Moses of his reaction to such news, wanting Moses to intercede for the Israelites, but we can’t go into that much detail here…

In the same way, when we pray, we are asking God to enforce His will and not the consequences of our sin. So at times when things turn around for the better, we haven’t changed God’s will. We have only asked God to enforce His original will.

Praying suddenly made sense!

Our job is to sieve out and recognise God’s will, and pray that He will enforce it. No matter what the situation may be. That was a revelation to me that God’s will is to prosper me, to give me a sound mind, to make me the head and not the tail… Things that I’d read in the bible before but never really grasped.

What has God been speaking to you? What is God’s will and promise for your life and your situation? Recognise it! And start praying it into being!

What’s the song?

Friday, January 12th, 2007

Been ages since I last heard that question…

It’s the question that pastors ask their worship leaders during altar call ministry time… The worship leaders are expected to hear or sense what God wants to do, find an appropriate song that helps to bring out God’s message, and play it on demand as soon as this question is asked… And our worship leaders usually have a song… I didn’t…Good thing P Kenny had a song in mind…

It made me wonder if that question can be used in places other than in services or cells…

When you had a long day, “what’s the song?”
When you are waiting for a job, “what’s the song?”
When parents are persecuting you, “what’s the song?”
When you are miserable and upset, “what’s the song?”

Asking that question makes you stop and think from a different perspective… What’s God’s purpose for such events? What does He intend to do? And how should we respond to Him?

More often than not, the response involves praising and thanking God… Even when it doesn’t make sense…

Unnatural

A girlfriend’s got to do what a girlfriend’s got to do…

Some might say it’s counter-intuitive, restrictive, wrong, or just cramping one’s style… But then, since when has being in a relationship been about fitting it into one’s lifestyle? (I used to think that way, but those relationships never got anywhere…)

Being in a relationship is about constantly making sacrifices, finding mutual compromises, and biting back your own tongue to not say things that you know will hurt your partner… It’s been time-consuming, and sometimes emotionally draining… But I dare say, things have been very good… God used all of this to teach me to Love…

And He isn’t just teaching me…

I know very well that if the roles were reversed, if I was the one with a need, he would have gladly done the same for me… And I really appreciate that…

I finally got the Corrinne May christmas album… after christmas…

It’s a great album… I love “The Answer“… It’s for listening on those dreamy evenings… Resting in the arms of someone who loves you dearly… Someone who loves Jesus together with you…

Christmas Stella

Monday, December 25th, 2006

As of 6.08pm today, Baby Stella arrived safely into this world… as Baby Stella & not Baby Artois (the alternative name in case ’she’ turned out to be a ‘he’)…

No more than a few hours old, she is already 1/3 the height of her mummy… She’s clearly got the daddy’s height genes… She also inherited her mummy’s curly locks… And is the cutest little baby I have ever seen!! Sadly, I haven’t seen her, only her pictures… But I’m going tomorrow to visit her again…

Everyone is excited about her birth… Even non-family…

Kay gladly accompanied me to the hospital and even helped to pay for the cab fare…And when I arrived home from the hospital and switched on my computer, JBB’s nick said

“yixin’s niece is a xmas baby yay!”

Kay had told him about it via Imode MSN… And JBB admitted that the news brought him a lot of cheer into the christmas season…

Isn’t she amazing? She brings joy into the life of people around her… Just by her presence… Just like the baby born 2000 years ago in a small manger in Bethlehem… The baby Jesus…

This is my most special christmas ever…

当你孤单你会想起谁

It’s a nice feeling when you finally see how God answered your prayers… I now know who I will think of when I’m alone… Do you?

当你孤单你会想起谁 - 张栋梁

[spoiler '[+] Click for lyrics’ ‘[-] Hide lyrics’]

Something about that Name

Monday, December 18th, 2006

The song that we keep singing in church… And I never get sick of it…

There is so much power when you call upon the name of Jesus… Cos when you do, every knee must bow, every tongue must confess that Jesus Christ is Lord… Every single problem or trouble must bow before the throne of Jesus…

And when I remember that, I know God is with me thru everything and He brings me reassurance and peace…

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
There is something about that name
Master, Saviour, Jesus
Like the fragrance after the rain

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
Let all heaven and earth proclaim
Kings and Kingdoms will all pass away
But there’s something about that name

Why we love Clemmie

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

You wanna know why we love Clemmie?

The absolute-no-questions-asked-all-hands-down reason why we love Clemmie?

Because he danced to “Locomotion” today at the North District Thanksgiving on stage!! (Don’t blame us, even DJ Melmel was out to sabo him…)

Clem'sDanceCollageSmall

It wasn’t for very long, and it wasn’t as fancy as the little jig that the guy did in the video below. But it was so funny!!! Plus, Clemmie was sporting enough to do it in front of everyone. We’re so proud of him!

You go, Clemmie!

Clemletts Cell

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

Laughed so hard in cell today that my stomach started aching.

Being the first cell after exams and last formal cell of the year, everyone was high!

Lots of stuff transpired, over Clem’s treat of Macs & ice cream.

Casserine has moved on to newer pastures… to join her Future (Will miss her terribly!!!)

Cass became the new icon for the Fashion label and is now known as Guessandra.

D is now known as Mama D. (Pretty hip hop!)

Les’ was spotted with a particular Miss Japan and is currently being bugged for details. (Seriously, he could have saved himself some trouble if he hadn’t taken out the 2 ticket stubs for the show he watched with Miss Japan, one week b4 exams! Everyone thought it was mine…)

Rayzor will start talking like the Americans, just to get acclimatized… Next time you see him in church he’s gonna go, “Yo! Let’s pray, yo!”

We christianed Clem’s future son Clemlett and future daughter, Clemletta.

Clem intends to illegally pitch tents on Sentosa beach, for his wedding dinner. When the authorities come, everyone will have to pick up their own chair and tents and run.

Clem’s wedding cake will have the Mac’s happy meal toy Cinderella instead of the usual wedding dolls. He still hasn’t got the prince yet, so someone’s gotta buy happy meal next week!

My cell leader went into some excessive detail about couple behaviour in public that grossed out several cell members last week. This week, 2 of the 4 didn’t turn up for cell. (Hopefully not because they got freaked out.)

Clem threw his dirty tissue into the nuggets box which still held one last nugget. Rayzor suggested playing zong ji mi ma just to see who would get it.

Disclaimer: This blog is written in good humour, to demonstrate the rapport of the cell. It is by no means designed to upset the harmony of the cell or section, or to dishonour the cell leader. In fact, we’re quite proud to be clemmie’s little clemletts. Thanx.

TO TP99A: If you have other random jokes to add to this, please comment to this post!
