Letter to Stella
Sunday, March 25th, 2007Hello sweetie…
This is the first letter you will ever get from from anyone.
I figured that when you grow up, you are going to have a lot of questions about what it was like when you were young and why you are the way you are.
This letter will attempt to explain why you turned out the way you did, based on your life so far, which is about the first 3 months of your life.
- It was your Daddy who gave you your looks.
- It was your Daddy who gave you your very independent spirit.
- It was your Mummy who gave you your loud voice.
- It was your Mummy who gave you your little button nose, and all the sneezes and sniffles that come with it.
- It was your Mummy & Daddy who started you on Jason Mraz and Kings of Convenience, and probably every other form of indie rock music.
- It was your Grandma who made you very particular about cleanliness.
- It was your Grandma who first started calling you “wenyin guai guai” (translation: be good, stella)
- It was your Grandpa who was the first man you learnt to manipulate… hmm
- It was your Da Yi who taught you to be pretty first and comfy later.
- It was your Da Yi told you to start walking quickly so that you can be the flower girl at her wedding.
- It was your Da Yi who made you never forget the names of Pinky Cat & Spunky Dog.
- It was your Xiao Yi who taught you to sleep in on rainy days.
- It was your Xiao Yi who confused you with flash cards.
- It was your Xiao Yi who desperately rocked and sang Jason Mraz, while you were in her arms, just to make you stop crying.
Of course, there’s something else…
It was all of us who spoiled you completely…
All our love, Baby…
Xiao Yi
Daddy… It’s your birthday!
Monday, March 12th, 2007Celebrated my dad’s birthday early this year @ My Humble House.
It’s an expensive and interesting looking place. Not quite your regular Chinese Restaurant.
Was very amused by their tall chairs.
The food was not bad… They gave my Dad a complimentary brownie with ice cream, served on smoking dry ice. They’re big on presentation those people.
One big happy family
A very pleased Daddy & Mummy
One gripe. The management isn’t very good to their waitresses.
- The uniform is cut at the midriff (to make them look sexy and stuff) and several of their waitresses were clearly uncomfortable with it. Kept trying to cover their bellies while taking orders.
- There’s a funny flap at the end of their sleeves and it can easily get into the food while the waitresses go about serving food and topping up drinks. Not so good when they already have so much to worry about.
- The tall chairs are pretty but they make it difficult for the waitresses cos they have to squeeze between the chairs. And we never know they are there until they stick their heads in. I think one of the waitresses knocked herself on one of the chairs too. Poor thing.
- There are these long black tassles at the back of our chairs, and several times, I spotted the waitresses getting tangled up in them walking between the tables.
Seriously, why do they still want to work there??
IT Show-off
Friday, March 9th, 2007Dad went to the IT Show yesterday and guess what he got for me?!
Sandisk Memory Stick Micro M2 1GB card
(for SE phones)
I have the greatest daddy in the world!
Can’t wait to finish work today, cos I’m going to see the IT Show for myself tonight… To look for SLIK tripods and other camera accessories… So exciting!
Superdawg
Thursday, March 8th, 2007Tried the Superdog fast food place at Vivo…
It was rather nice. No pictures cos we were hungry again. But I found a blog with some pictures to look at…
The chilli cheese hot dog was nice. Although, next time I’m not getting cheese cos I couldn’t taste it. The only thing that was lacking was pickle relish to give it that sweet and sour taste.
A hotdog just isn’t a hotdog without relish.
If you love Mexican fast food…
Tuesday, March 6th, 2007… and live in Singapore, you have to try the TACO SALAD @ Carl’s Junior.
For $8.90, it’s the best thing you can get in this mexican-fast-food-scarce-country…
There’s no picture cos well, we were too eager to start eating that we didn’t stop to think about taking a shot first…
Maybe next time!
Not so improved
Wednesday, February 28th, 2007We got a pack of Lay’s with our Subway and discovered something new about the packaging.
Now it’s made from 100% Sunflower oil, as opposed to the combination of Sunflower, Cottonseed and Corn oil it used before. This new change is supposed to make it healthier cos there is zero grams of trans fat and only 1g of saturated fats for every 10g of chips.
Unfortunately, now Lay’s BBQ chips look like and taste like Jack n’ Jill. I don’t think i’m ever gonna pay double for Lay’s when they taste like the cheaper alternatives.
Hai…
庆团圆
Saturday, February 24th, 2007Had a cell reunion dinner at Sixth Avenue Auntie’s place yesterday, cos she asked us to go back.
Lo Hei
She was really nice to us again. The yu sheng was on the house! I got a good deal cos it was supposed to be my treat.
Then after the dinner, in true CNY tradition…
Gambling? Course not…
The clueless mentor & the confused mentoree
Wendy was teaching Sarah Jane how to see the market rates fluctuate in a game of Hearts… (Are we playing cards or playing with stocks and shares?)
The other players at the table:
The confident cats
The mang zang
Makes one feel so reunioned doesn’t it?
Harsh Realities
Tuesday, February 20th, 2007It’s been a great long holiday…
Waking up late, seeing the family, taking care of Stella, great homemade family dinners, homemade pineapple tarts, meeting dar and his family, visiting sophia’s home, ang pows… Everything was good and happy and pleasant… I was just starting to really like this lifestyle and then reality hits back.
Work starts again tomorrow!
Ahhhhh….
Disclaimer: I still like my work. It’s just not the same as having a holiday.
