Lip Service

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Silly girls and their silly reasons for buying things…

Planned to get a good lip balm for my chapped lips cos the a/c in office wasn’t doing me any good…

Went into the store, found the good brand that my colleague recommended… Was going to pay when I spotted one of an unknown brand that had purple packaging

Brought both to the counter to find out the price… The recommended one was much cheaper than the other… But, this silly person decided to buy the expensive one, cos she figured it’d be prettier to carry around…

Totally regretting it now…

The lip balm smells really weird… Can’t stand using it… Will have to go down and get the other kind anyway…

Silly girl…

AMK Hub

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

I haven’t gone to AMK in a really long time…

I know I live nearby… But the thought of taking a bus down to take a train at a place with no Starbucks is just not my idea of time well spent… Especially when town and my office is a straight bus from home!

Finally went to check it out today after LCE… With Kay of course…

AMK is an old town… Nothing changes… A lot of the shops I used to frequent in my sec school days to are still around… There are some good changes of course… Like cash converters (Good for selling… Not for buying…)

The best part is AMK Hub, the huge spanking new shopping mall combined with bus interchange and underpass to AMK station… It was open today, for Basement 1 & 2… And we went in to take a look… Quite a few shops were opened already, selling clothes, accessories, and lots of stuff… There’s “The Box”!!

Fairprice was open at B2 and so were the eateries… We found a great little stall selling… DONUTS!

Donuts

I got the Cookie Donut (White chocolate frosting & Oreo Sprinkles), and Kay got the Almond Donut with dark chocolate and a creamy centre… Both were very nice… Dark chocolate was sold out, so I’m guessing it was good too… Next time, we’re gonna try the sugar glazed cos it reminds me of Krispy Kreme!

Hopefully by then, AMK Hub would be opened properly and I won’t have to walk the long stretch just to get to the bus interchange… And that there would be more shops to visit…
Also praying hard that Starbucks will open there… *Fingers crossed*

I like stars…

I like them better than hearts… Even though they’re both ‘xin’.

Update:

Speaking of Starbucks…

They were offering free coffee from 5-7pm just today. Did you get your free cuppa?

I went to the ulu one near bugis village… And the barristers (decked in their santa caps) were touting passers-by who had no idea starbucks was offering free coffee… Even so, the queue was reasonably long… Thank goodness for all the frappe drinkers… Cos the ice blends took ages… My tall cap arrived very quick…

I can’t imagine how long the queue at Vivocity Starbucks must have been…

London gifts are falling down

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

I love it when my sister comes back from a holiday… She always brings back great presents…
This time she was away on a business trip to London…

I got a box of 20 silver candles! Normally i hate getting impractical presents… But useless silver things are always the exception… She even knew it was the correct silver… so touched…

She also got me a cool black bag… It can be completely unzipped and rolled up to stowaway when I go on trips and camps and might need an extra bag….

Kay gets a very adorable bear… He hasn’t seen it yet… He gets to choose between the red one and the blue one…

British Bears (1)

Stella has 2 darling dresses! 1 of them is from GAP!!! Screech!!! She is gonna be one spoilt baby…

Preggie Sis (14)

Preggie sis parading the Baby GAP dress…

Preggie Sis (15)

The Baby GAP blouse - Does this fit stella?
Too bad the brother-in-law stepped in early and limited Stella’s clothing to S$30 max per piece… Spoilt our fun… He knew me and my mum and sisters would have gone wild otherwise… Shucks…

Here’s the thing… Stella’s branded wear is gonna be my kids’ branded hand-me-downs in about 8 years time… My big sis already declared it… Hai… As if it wasn’t enough that I wore hand-me-downs all my life… My consolation is that my kids are gonna wear baby gap from 0-3mths… How cool is that?

And you know what else?

She (my sister, not stella) brought back 2 Krispy Kreme donuts!!!

I LOVE MY SISTER!!!

Viva La Vivo

When you got two shopaholic sisters and a shopaholic mom, it’s almost criminal not to check out the latest shopping haunt in the country, on opening day… (It wasn’t even the official opening day… The carpark wasn’t ready, with unpainted walls and lots of cables showing..)

VivoCity, located at Harbourfront, & touted the newest and largest shopping centre around. I’m not gonna argue about the size thing though… It really is huge… We spent about 4 hours in that place, and I think we only saw about a quarter of the entire shopping centre.

It’s pretty spacious. Reminded us of the huge shopping malls in Bangkok that my family loved. Good value & Air conditioning. My sister managed to get a gorgeous emerald green dress from Warehouse @ 20% off. There wasn’t much to interest me though. I know, the cinema is one of the largest… But, there were no good camera shops, no good guitar shops, no good CD shops, no good Christian shops… I still prefer my Peninsula/Bras Basah shopping area. But then, most of the stores aren’t leased out yet… There might still be hope…

There is one thing though that really turns me off… NO STARBUCKS

The management just shot themselves in the foot.

Stella Updates:

- She’s due on Christmas week! I can hardly wait to meet her!!!

- Finally got to buy her something. A cute beige corduroy overall from FOX Kids. Was deciding between that and the red mini skirt. But 12mths is a little too early to start her on mini skirts eh?

- Found a cool pink e guit for 3 yr olds @ Toys R’ Us. The preggie sis says I’ll have to wait till Stella’s older to get it.

- Stella kicks a lot now. Preggie sis says it feels like an earthquake when she kicks. And also, she only kicks when the preggie sis is resting. Apparently when the mommy moves around a lot, it makes the little baby drowsy… haha!

It was customized for Victor & Shuyi…

Shopping again…

“…You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the shopping queen…”

i really am spending beyond my means… but of cos, that statement isn’t really fair cos my means are nothing… zilch… so as long as i spend something… like pay 50cts to go to the toilet or 20cts for a packet of standard 2ply tissue, i have just spent beyond my means…

ok… that’s the excuse for shopping…

at least i buy useful items… is my defence…

got the Lowepro Nova 5 AW camera bag… it opens the sensible way… it’s got all the space i need to put my camera, lenses, accessories and other peripherals that i always think are so essential for my assignment… like umbrella, water bottle, makeup kit (oh opps, i dun even use makeup), and bling! it is that spacious and roomy… it’s huge though, and boxy… and i look puny carrying it… But, when i walked into combined L cell today with it, everyone thought i’d started working as a photog already… I LOVE IT!

i also bought the Kingston 512MB DDR2 RAM from Sim Lim… Kay helped me pick it out… (I couldn’t even figure out the tiny print price lists in all the shops… Much less find the specifications of the RAM i needed… Kay had to demonstrate the wonders of CPU-Z) First time i saw my dear lappie taken apart… i think she must have felt naked when they took the keyboard out to install the RAM… (say, i never even knew my keyboard could open up… heck, i couldn’t even take out my battery on my own…) in any case, i think the comp is running faster now… and i have no excuse but to get to work on the video editing for Alphatrack… uh oh…

now, that’s two items struck off the shopping list… a zillion more to go…

met a fren today… initials of said fren - NY… Hence the title…

First things first
Did the sensible thing…

mrbrownshow_turkwa_1024_768

… bought the mr brown tur kua tee shirt… for $20… in smallest size which is still too big for me… and the printing wasn’t very good…

Sakae Sushi Lunch…
tried the baigai… expected something like escargot… turned out to be raw & smelly snails…

Baigai

had to dunk it in the hot water for the green tea before i could eat the second… ugh… and NY never took a single one…

spent lunchtime discussing the perils of working in the local media… him i mean… not me… i’m still jobless… NY plans to wear the tur kua tee to work… i gave him all my blessing… also silently promising to write when they exile him… i doubt he’d even get internet access then…

Shopping…
NY was wearing a cool shirt…

NY's Cool Tee cropped

i lost my phone number… can i borrow yours?

He showed me where to get more of those… (got a personal shopper assignment coming up… gotta do my homework… )

found a cool shirt at Fox Men… didn’t fit… took a photo of it anyway…

Cool Fox Men Tee Full

why would a guy wear a shirt that says “you are NOT staying over”??

Borders Bistro
finally sat down for a drink. I treated him to a pathetic $4.80+++ latte… He’s cheap that way… too lazy to recall what we said anymore… it wasn’t important anyway…

rambling from kajang…

still no pictures… using my S$1/hr internet at the cyber cafe near my hotel… will talk more about the actual ministry stuff when the pictures are sorted…

finally got rid of my spate of bad fortune with the shops around here… got a nice cool tank top for Rm10 last night… *on offday, i spent the entire day at Midvalley and couldn’t find a thing to buy… save for a useful chord book from MPH… and a Zara tee for kay (of all ppl)*

also realized that supermarkets are not exactly the most intuitive places to find what you need… went to buy logistics and somehow, the products are arranged in such weird manner that all your normal common sense gets thrown out the window… like the washing items are on the opposite ends of the store from the tupperwares and party needs (why??)… and the chips are far from the chocolates (such a hassle!!!)…

oh, and i’m hooked on daytona… beginner stage… learning to drift the car… haha!

anyway, cher saw a little toddler girl wearing the cutest teeshirt on the street… and she told me about it… we both agree that it’s one of the best gifts our hubby could possibly give us…

it said “if you think i’m cute…. wait till you see my mom

how flattering…
