Apologies on this horribly back dated post. I couldn’t figure how to write it right, and then work got really busy and I couldn’t even try.

But anyway, this post is about valentine’s day. Mine, of course. And my good friends are all going “??!!!” right about now.

Cos I hate valentine’s day.

It’s the one day of the entire year that I don’t want to be on a date. The ridiculously priced flowers, the ugly and completely useless heart-shaped presents, the overly-priced bad dinners. I don’t need to go on a date with every single couple in the country. It just doesn’t seem very special anymore.

So as a rule of thumb, I don’t celebrate it. Last year, I think I worked through it, and Yk bought Cafe Verona to enjoy at home.

But we happened to celebrate it this year. And I must say, I rather liked it.

It wasn’t your conventional/planned vday, it just happened. We were going for one of his good friend’s family member’s wake at JE, so we met up at the station (the unplanned meeting). I found his favourite ‘fsck it’ notebook at popular and got two for him (the unplanned present). Then we got hungry and decided to get 2 $2.50 mee siam from FoodFare (the unplanned dinner) and sat down on stone benches at the bus interchange to eat and watch the buses rumble by (the unplanned date).

The $2.50 mee siam

It smelled like mummy’s homemade mee siam, which is why we bought it… and it tasted almost as good too…

That’d be me and my mee siam, with FoodFare behind me

I enjoyed it thoroughly. We don’t get a simple meal at a bus interchange like that very often. And although it was vday, I wasn’t reminded of it. We had none of that commercialised vday trash. We just got time to enjoy nice food, an interesting dinner location and most importantly, each other’s company.

So for that, I guess vday this year wasn’t too bad at all.

… questioning everything you’ve ever believed and done in your life.

… not being able to taste perfectly good Starbucks after a bad quarrel.

… crying yourself to sleep under the covers.

… looking for a good song to savour a bad mood and discovering that all the radio stations simultaneously decided to play bad music.

… feeling awkward and weird in the company of people.

… screaming your heart out alone in the car.

… having so much to say but finding no one to say it to, because everyone around you is too involved in your life and you don’t want to worry any of them.

Can anyone change so drastically that even their nature and their behaviour bears no resemblance to what they were before?

i blog when i’m bored. i’m bored when i don’t work. i should go back to work.

Dar’s been listening to a lot of Queen lately… It’s our homework before we catch the “We Will Rock You” musical in April… And he found a song just for me…

It isn’t the most flattering song… Lyd will tell you that… but Dar still managed to convince me that it’s rather cute… Even has it on his msn nick…

And to my amusement, that song was featured on today’s strip of QC!!

yes, my own dar calls me a… yeah.

To my boss who doesn’t stalk this blog but somehow knew the blog address anyway:
(You can read this when you accidentally/on purpose stumble upon my blog)

Thanks for attempting to give me a treat for my birthday!!
Really appreciate it.
Even though I ended up paying instead.

Heh.

My birthday this year falls on a bad day. It falls on a public holiday. And not just ANY public holiday…

The FIRST DAY OF CHINESE NEW YEAR.

“Why is that so bad?”, you may ask.

Well, it’s hard to have a quiet birthday when you’re visiting every single family member and extended family member you ever had. It’s hard to go out cos all the shops and restaurants are closed. It’s hard to meet your own boyfriend cos he’s got his entire family to visit. It’s hard to follow tradition and meet your best friend the evening before your birthday cos you have a reunion dinner to go for. It’s hard to see your own family cos your married sisters have their own in laws and in law’s relations to go visit. It’s hard to go out with your parents when everyone else is coming to your place to visit your parents.

It’s just hard.

So, to save all that trouble, my dar and I celebrated my birthday yesterday. An entire day, together. =)

First thing in the morning, (or as early as we could wake up anyway) we went to visit my darling niece who was down with a bad cold over the past few days. She was getting a lot better and was rather pleased to have us around. She’s learned to pose for the camera. Like a ROCKSTAR…

And yes, that’s dar dar posing like Wenyinyin…

Then we headed down to town, where I got my two surprises for the day… =)

Then it was lunch at Thai Express to use my $15 birthday voucher… 27 Dresses AGAIN… (becos I was in a cheesy mood)… And our favourite haunt…

We met the cell for CNY dinner, and had a mini birthday celebration…

SIDETRACK:

To my favourite cell mates…

“I love the present and the lovely cake! Thank you all for everything!!”

To end off the day, dar brought me down to boat quay to watch the lights and the river and just enjoy each other’s company… before he took a long bus ride with me to my home…

You’re probably wondering why that was such a perfect day. We didn’t do anything extraordinary or different. It could have been any other date. But well, my love language is time, the most expensive commodity in Sg. And having someone I love spend an entire day with me, means far more than having the most expensive presents or the most exciting date.

So yeah, I’ve had a perfect day.

And the best thing is… It wouldn’t be too hard to have another…

Today, I grieve at the passing of a loved one.

He gave all his years and dedication to our company. Working tirelessly, day after day, resting only when the rest of us did. He was never fazed by the constant changes in the editorial team, and the changes in partners. He worked without a word of complaint, only giving his best

He was a dear friend to me. A great partner at work. Although I had to admit we had our differences at the start, exchanged several vulgar words, we managed to work through that, and then he was an indispensable part of my working life.

Some people said I became biased towards him after awhile, preferring to consult his expertise on my personal work over anyone else’s. But I couldn’t help it. I had become so familiar with him that it was almost second nature to have him around to help me.

On the first of February this year, at 12.15pm, he finally decided it was time for him to depart. Without any warning, he gave up his last breath. There were no signs of sickness or weakness, or any signs of aging. He was strong till the very last assignment. And I was there with him.

He was greatly loved, and he shall be greatly missed.

Rest in peace, my dear Canon EOS D60.

Work is never gonna be the same without you.

Found bat droppings on the car in the morning… So I took a little time out to hose it down… Haven’t had a  seemingly legit reason to play with water in a long while… =)

And a rather appropriate song came to mind.

Car Wash - Christina Aguilera ft Missy Elliot

Definitely puts you in a good cheery sunday mood…

… and he’s got another name - yk.

My darling geek discovered that other geeks of the world made an open source version of GuitarHero called Frets on Fire.

fofonpc

It’s free to download and can be played on your pc. You can download the mods to make it look exactly like GuitarHero (but you probably wouldn’t cos the other mod designs of FoF are so much cooler.) and all the songs from all the different versions of GH are available for free download! So I can get all my favourite songs from every version!!

dardarplayingfof

The icing on the cake? You can even create new songs for FoF playing, so your favourite rock song is never left out of FoF action!

I LOVE GEEKS!

(And I know Nic’ll say he knew that already…

meplayingfof

The only downside is, the dar and I have been playing FoF with ordinary keyboards, and it looks pretty silly strumming the “Enter” key. But that’s being fixed right as we speak, cos dar ordered the Xbox version of GH3 off Ebay so that we can get the wireless Gibson Les Paul! (the wireless adaptor is USB compatible.)

Yay!!!

my favourite word of all… when spoken by my favouritest niece of all…

(She says that everytime she gets excited. No one know what it is or what it means… but who cares?)

Reason 100 - Geeks made my phone, my camera, my computer, and every techie device that I can’t live without.

Reason 011 - Geeks gave us great animations like Finding Nemo and the Incredibles.

Reason 010 - Geeks created Open Source so we can get all the good stuff from GuitarHero free… (i.e. Frets On Fire)

Reason 001 - My dar is a geek and he rocks my world!

I’ve been at the new job for about 4 months now… and this has never happened before.

The photo request pocket is empty!

We’ve had days of no assignments before. But the pocket is usually packed with requests for the next few days or the next week even.

Today, nothing at all.

We’re really wrapping up for the holidays… Either that or I’m speaking too soon and the last minute requests are just waiting to flood the pocket, and drown me, as soon as I’m done writing this post.

Hmmm…

10 mins later…I was right. Spoke too soon.
